Hear from our employee: Issu Tsegay
At Dow, we are paving the way for making progress in the space of inclusion, diversity and equity (ID&E) and allowing each single individual to get a fair chance at entering the corporate world. We spoke with our colleague Issu Tsegay, Analytical Technician at Dow Barry (UK), who has been with Dow for nearly 9 years and he can’t think of a better employer.
Why did you choose Dow?
Dow was one of the employers where I could bring my whole self. It was 2009 and I just moved to the UK from a small east African country. I soon found a job in a lab in North Wales but after 3 and a half years, I had to relocate to Cardiff for personal reasons. It became quite challenging getting a job with a name not familiar to most local employers.

I spent several months applying for different lab positions without any success despite my relevant experience.
"I chose Dow because the company acknowledged my whole self based on my experience and abilities since the beginning. When they gave me a call for the job interview, they were calling me with my real name and I was delighted."
Why do you continue to choose Dow?
Dow is the company that cares about its people, provides opportunities for growth and promotes inclusion, diversity and equity as its core values. You can be part of different Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) that take on a greater role to foster a truly inclusive workplace. Through these networks, we give to our people the opportunity to express who they are without the fear of being themselves.
"I am currently the Champion of the Global African Affinity Network (GAAN) that I proudly launched in Barry (UK) in 2020. In addition to the day-to-day job, the opportunity to get involved with ERGs and take part in professional development makes working for Dow more interesting and more inclusive."
