The EU Green Deal sets a clear direction for Europe to reduce CO2 emissions by 55% by 2030 and become climate neutral by 2050. But how can our industry achieve it?
To support customers in decarbonization, Dow has announced the CO2 roadmap for its Terneuzen, Netherlands operations. We’re aiming to reduce emissions by more than 40 percent by 2030, setting us on course to achieve net carbon neutrality by 2050. By using clean hydrogen and other breakthrough technologies, we foresee the reduction of 1.4 million metric tons of CO2 annually in the first phase of a three phase plan.
In addition, we’ve announced plans to add eight new renewable power agreements globally. This will reduce emissions by more than 600,000 tons of CO2 per year and increase our total access to more than 850MW of clean power. In Europe, we’ve enabled eight Dow sites across Spain, U.K., Sweden, France, and Germany to transition to 100% green electricity.
Through sustainable production, designing for recycling and the recovery of plastic waste, we’re also committed to achieving plastics circularity. In a webinar with Packaging Europe, we’ve shown how these and other activities can help you in this area too.
